Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)

A permanent resident card is generally known as a “green card” because the card has an overall green color palate.  This card is an identity document which is issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). Issuance of a green card is a proof that a person is authorized to live and work permanently in the United States. This is generally the first step that an immigrant takes to becoming an American citizen.

There are many paths to attain permanent residence in the United States of America. Many green card applicants are sponsored by family members or employers in the United States.  Certain other immigrants may also be eligible for green cards in certain circumstances, which includes immigrant investor programs.

If you are applying for a green card it is in your best interest to consult with a knowledgeable immigration attorney prior to filing any paperwork.
